happy, sad or mad?

i don't know if i should be happy, sad or mad about this.. so i am soliciting input (isn't that a good work-type catch phrase?)

i picked up lunch and was coming back to my building. the guy in front of me held the door open, i walked through and said "thank you", because I always thank people who hold doors - male OR female. we got into the elevator, he held the door again and i said "thanks" again.
he said, "You just restored my faith in your gender. You're about the 5th woman I've held the door open for today, and you're the first to say 'thank you'."

are people just less polite? that would make me sad. i'm happy that i restored his faith in women, but yet rather mad that he kinda dissed my entire gender.

what say ye??
